About Me

Mito Habe-Evans

TheGreatPhotoGuy.com has always been about the photography and making people happy.

I bought my first 126 camera when I was in the 8th grade, by selling seeds for some school fund raiser. I took pictures around the neighborhood and was amazed at the concept of photography.

Throughout my life I had various cameras. Disc camera when I joined the Navy. That was a fad.

I was stepping up when my parents bought me a Vivitar 35mm. I had that throughout my marriage and was constantly photographing my children. To this day, my daughter is a natural in front of a camera, probably because of that.

I was in the Illinois Army National Guard in September 2001 when the attacks happened. I was part of Operation Enduring Freedom and was deployed to Stuttgart Germany for 7 months. Prior to the deployment, I wanted to chronical everything that I would experience. I bought my first real digital camera. It was a Sony Mavica with 1.4 Megapixels. Can you imagine? Phones have at least double that.

I learned a lot using that camera. Returning home I found myself with thousands and thousands of pictures. As I started to show people my adventure, I kept hearing one thing over and over. "That's a great picture!"

I went back to my road warrior job that flew me all over the United States and Canada. I kept shooting pictures. Mostly to prevent from getting bored. It would give me something to do when I was on the plane or in the hotel.
In 2003, I came up with the idea for TheGreatPhotoGuy.com. I never did anything with it except putter around and made a website. Learned a couple things about emails and html.

In 2009, I reconnected with my daughter after years of separation. I thought that building a business and photography would be a great way to get reintroduced and rebuild the relationship that was taken from us. I started with her modelling. She is fantastic, funny and a big ham! I bought a new camera, lights and backdrops and finally we were in business.

I stumbled upon Craigslist and found out there were all kinds of neat jobs that you could do. Things I never thought of like Papparazzi, marathon photography and parties. I have been having a great time ever since.

I hope this gives you insight into who we are and what we are all about. See you soon at your photo shoot! -Mike TheGreatPhotoGuy.com
